My artistic practice has developed at the intersection of scientific thinking and visual intuition. I work with an abstract exploration of biomorphic structures, observing how diverse forms emerge — mesh-like, droplet-shaped, tubular, membranous, spiral — as nature does, yet without being limited by its laws, reflecting my own vision and anticipating new forms. I am interested in the moment in which elements begin to organize into systems. The same principles of organization appear in the macrocosm, the microcosm, and the transitional states between them. In my work, I mix these levels, allowing cosmic forms to coexist with microscopic ones within a single visual space, creating an unusual interaction of dimensions. In the process of working, I seek a harmony of freedom and precision, imagination and reason. I am confident that accumulated life experience serves as the perfect foundation for unbridled imagination: The Dream of Reason Produces Wonders
Artist Bio
Aurora Borealis is an artist based in Auckland, New Zealand, of Ukrainian–Yakut heritage. She was born in the cold of Siberia (Yakutia) and survived cancer and a heart attack. Having experienced bombings and other horrors of war while living on the Ukraine–Russia border, she transformed life’s catastrophes and the loss of her homeland into a rebirth in her third incarnation. A former lawyer and judge, she was passionate about cynology and genetics; now, at 66, she is a self-taught artist. She paints in the genre of biomorphic expressionism with elements of psychedelic surrealism, channeling a fusion of erudition and imagination into visionary, color-rich compositions.
